What makes up successful training program?

Whether you are creating your own program, purchasing a training template, or are looking for a coach to create a custom program to improve your strength, conditioning, or physique, here are the essential principles I use when designing my client’s programs!

Design with the goal in mind

A successful program is first designed with the your goal in mind. Whether the goal is strength, conditioning, physique change, or sport performance, having the adaptations or outcome this program is designed to achieve clearly defined by you (with or without a coach’s help) is the first step toward success.

Adherence

The BEST program is the one that you can adhere to. Focus on achieving buy-in and commitment to your chosen program and desired goal. Create a training schedule that is conducive to the your lifestyle, recovery needs, and schedule is essential for the execution of the plan.

Progressive Overload

A solid training plan also has a clear progression with attainable metrics for applying progressive overload, the fundamental principle that drives progress. Your most successful program should enable you to challenge yourself,  and prompt you to record reps, sets, and load. This program should further the goal of progressive overload by also allowing you to recover and beat this performance in successive weeks.

Plan your training life-cycle

Lastly, a successful exercise program does not live in a vacuum; the program should be incorporated into a larger periodization of programs and phases, painting a clear picture for how you will be consistently increasing performance and progressing toward your goal(s) long-term.
